Corey Jackson a.k.a. Cojack - Vocals

I was born and raised in Miami, Fl.  I am a professional basketball player for the Teesside Mohawks. Since being in Great Britain I have also played for the Chester Jets, Newcastle Eagles, and the Birmingham Bullets.  At 6’8”, playing basketball was sort of a natural thing.  Growing up sports was always a main part of my life.  I was very fortunate unlike a lot of kids in the hood to have a two parent household.  A further blessing was that they were both school teachers and stressed education as a main priority to be successful in life.

In Carol City, the hood was like a vacuum capable of the sucking up anything or anyone.  Where I grew up you had to be head strong.  It was either sports or the streets (real drama).  My parents deserve a lot of
credit cause mama taught me how to act right and papa put the strap on the backside when I didn’t (real parents).  Trouble I got into on the streets
never exceeded education and basketball.

As far as music, I used mess to around with rapping in junior high but
never anything serious.  After I finished school and started travelling with
basketball to all these places, mom said maybe I should keep a diary of some sort.  Since I thought  diaries were a woman thing, I think that’s when I took a turn to writing songs. It became a way of sometimes writing down my thoughts.  My first job basketball in Prague all I had was a small clock radio.  There wasn’t much urban music playing, but anything close I wrote a song to it.  I taught myself proper song structure for writing raps with verses, chorus, hooks etc.  I started recording at a studio in Boston when I realized I was destined for something other than 3 pointers and slam dunks.

I have teamed up with a Darlington based producer Mike Boyes a.k.a.
Monsoon.  We have been working together for two years showcasing a unique blend of hip-hop, soul, and R&B.  Most people upon hearing me speak compare my voice the late Barry White or Isaac Hayes of rap.  My content is not so different but my style makes me unique.  My favourite rapper of all time is Rakim.  I respect artist of all genres such as Jay-Z, Dizzie Rascal, The Streets, and Dave Matthews Band.

In recent I have performed at hand selected venues such as Stanhope Park Open Air Festival and other selected venues in Middlesborough and
Newcastle.  I have also performed live on TFM plus done live shows with them at Tall Trees (Club M).

At demos juries lots of industry people respond positively, which helps with my confidence to work harder and let me know I’m on the right track.  I’m real hungry for this, but I do understand that I need all the right people
and elements behind me for success.  I have reached one goal of being a professional basketball player and I believe “The Time Is Now” to reach the other in music.

Thank You,

Corey Jackson
